I really wanted to watch this flick when it released but then I forgot... and that is why people, I make lists... lots and lots and lots of them.
I watched it on Google Play today.
The movie is based on a true story. Jon Hamm stars as J B Bernstein who is a sports agent and has his own company along with Ash- Aasif Mandvi. They are unable to get new clients and decide to tap the virgin Indian market. They approach Mr Chang for a reality show wherein they will have talent contest in India called 'Million Dollar Arm'. 2 people who can pitch the baseball with the fastest speed and accuracy will get prize money and flown to US for coaching and have potential to to join a baseball team.
The 2 boys selected are Rinku Singh played by Suraj Sharma (Life of Pi) and Dinesh Patel played by Madhur Mittal (Slumdog Millionaire). Of course, things are not easy. The boys don't speak English and after an incident in the hotel have to shift with JB in his home. JB is a loner and a selfish jerk who sees the boys as an investment rather than teenage boys.
They fail their first tryout and on the insistence of his tenant Brenda (Lake Bell) he organizes a second tryout and the boys get a contract with Pittsburgh Pirates.
I found the movie ok... it could have been better. Its not as fast paced and exciting as Moneyball. All the characters are not fleshed out well... it's a lazy script full of clichés. Though the portrayal of India was just right.
Worth a watch once without expectations.
