Baahubali is NOT a Bollywood movie. Just because the movie has been released in Hindi does not make it a Bollywood film. In fact, Bollywood is not capable of making such movies. It is a Telugu movie which was made in Tamil and Telugu and dubbed in Hindi, Malayalam and French. Reason? It is the most expensive movie in Indian cinema today and the only way to earn profits is to release it in as many languages as possible. I guess the strategy worked.
The movie stars Prabhas, Rana Daggubati (so hot), Tamannaah, Anushka Shetty and Ramya Krishnan.
The movie is about two brothers warring for the throne. The story is nothing new. In fact, the first half is a drag. We were about to walk out of the flick and walk into "Inside Out" playing in the next screen but DT cinemas was dealing with a leaking roof and their systems were down so we couldn't book the tickets.
I am glad we stayed till the end because the pace picks up in the 2nd half.
Let me warn you though- if you are like me, you will have to leave every brain cell outside the theatre to enjoy this one.
Shivu (Prabhas) is the son of Baahubali and Devasena (Anushka). His grandmother (Ramya) drowned when she was chased by the soldiers and he was rescued by some villagers. He was raised without knowing his real identity in the village and grows up to be smart, handsome, very muscular and super horny superman (he can fly)... with a good imagination. He imagines Avantika (Tamannaah) from only her mask and is inspired to climb a daunting mountain to find her. And like a normal Telugu movie, his idea of wooing her is to take off her clothes and harass her. And just like a normal Indian movie heroine she falls in love with him. And then she pawns off her mission of rescuing Devasena (his mother) onto him very conveniently. She sounds like my kind of girl. It reminds me of all the engineering workshops (welding, filing, carpentry etc) I pawned off onto horny engineering dudes.... without any payback, of course.
Shivu, very conveniently, looks like his father (Baahubali) who was killed through treachery so Bhallala Deva (Rana)- his brother can become the King.
It ends with a Game of Thrones- que war. What happens next? For that, we need to wait till 2016 for the next part.
The special effects are awesome and watch this flick only for that. I would even recommend watching it after the interval. But yeah, worth every buck we spent.
Is it the best movie on this planet? Nope.
Is it the best Indian movie ever made? Nope.
Is it the best Telugu movie ever made? Nope. From what I have heard from a reliable source (KC- who watches all these dubbed movies) Magadheera is much better.
