I watched this flick last weekend but have taken my own sweet time to write the review. Because I have been ill.. and lazy... and not sure what to write.
The movie stars Deepika Padukone, Dimple Kapadia, Pankaj Kapur, Naseeruddin Shah and Arjun Kapoor.
Naseer receives the letter he posted eons back to his girl proposing marriage and he is heart broken. His girl did not even know how he felt about her. Deepika is his best friend and encourages him to find the girl- Fanny and tell her how he feels/felt. Problem is ... these people are not rich and cannot afford to hire a car to Fanny's house. They lure Pankaj Kapur to travel with them using Dimple as the bait. Panjak is a world famous painter with a car and he wants to paint Dimple. While Dimple is Deepika's mother in law. Arjun Kapoor has returned from Mumbai for his father's death and can drive. All 5 of them drive to Fanny's house. Obviously, there are a lot of ups and downs on the trip which are supposed to be funny. They are all weird people and in a weird situation together. In the end, Naseer finds Fanny but she is dead. Predictable.
I understand what Homi Adajania was trying to do in this movie. I get his point but he fails at it. The movie is not very funny... the way it should have been. All the actors give it their best but the situation is not THAT quirky. For example, Delhi Belly. It had quirky characters in weird situations and is hilarious. Finding Fanny fails at that. The end is also mediocre.
Homi has potential but he has a long way to go. He made Being Cyrus which had the same flaws.
The actors are fabulous... Naseer is stooping just like an old man... Panjak is so in character... Dimple is ok... Deepika can act and so can Arjun.
I am just happy he didn't make another regressive movie like Cocktail.
