Bombay Velvet

Let me start out by saying that I am fan of Ranbir Kapoor, Anurag Kashyap and Amit Trivedi. 

Ranbir is good even in his worst movies (Besharam and Roy) while Anurag's worst movies are better than most. 
Despite all the negative reviews, I told KC I want to watch this one in the theatre. We booked a cheaper theatre and I was surprised there were empty seats even an hour before the show.

The movie stars Ranbir Kapoor, Anushka Sharma, Karan Johar, Vivaan Shah, Kay Kay Menon, Manish Choudhary and Satyadeep Misra while Raveena Tandon, Remo Fernandes and Varun Grover have cameos.

Hasee Toh Phasee

I read good reviews on rediff.com and was looking forward to it. In an interview, Parineeti was describing her character in the movie and it sounded very interesting and different.

The movie has been directed by Vinil Mathew and produced by Anurag Kashyap and Karan Johar. It is nice to see these 2 guys come together... both excel in their type of film making. I am not a Karan fan but lets face it... his movies work.

Coming to this flick... it is a romantic comedy about 2 hatke people... Siddharth Malhotra as Nikhil is trying too hard... to make others happy... to get his career in order... to please his fiancee.

Gippi

It is always a good idea to watch a children's film. They are generally better than the adult movies.
We watched Gippi last weekend.

The flick is produced by Karan Johar and mostly stars new actors.
The story is about a teenager- Gippi (Riya Vij) who is going through adolescence... her experiences... living in a broken home... her first crush... beating the popular girl in elections.

The actors are superb and situations very realistic. The teenage girls talk about 'boys getting horny'...'their bras'... etc etc. Very real.

Divya Dutta as the mother is fabulous. Why does she always get small roles in movies? She can act better than most heroines.

All in all, a good watch. But please remember- it is a kids' movie.

Bombay Talkies

This movie is supposed to be a celebration of 100 years of cinema. It is a collection of 4 short films by- Karan Johar, Dibakar Banerjee, Zoya Akhtar and Anurag Kashyap.


Why these 4? I don't know. Zoya is only 2 films old... Dibakar is only 3-4 films old... Do they represent Bollywood? Karan and Anurag do... the former makes formula movies... the latter makes cutting edge movies.

I was not convinced by the concept but the rave reviews pulled me into the theatre.
