Carnage

The movie is based on the French play "Le Dieu du carnage" or "God of Carnage" by Yasmina Reza. I watched this flick for the 2nd time and enjoyed it as much as the first time. In fact, it is one of my favourite movies. I like dark comedies... the darker the better. Why don't Indian directors make such movies? I watched this flick because I wanted to compare the play with it. Review of play here.

It stars Jodie Foster, Kate Winslet, Christoph Waltz and John C Reilly and has been directed by Roman Polanski. It was shot in Paris because Roman was on the run from the USA because he had raped a 13 year old girl.

Anyway, Nancy (Kate) and Alan (Christoph) are one couple and Penelope (Jodie) and Michael (John) are the other couple. Their 11 year old sons get into a fight and they meet to sort out the issue. They start off on a decent note trying to be polite and politically correct but slowly and steadily enter into a slanging match. All 4 characters end up fighting with each other.

This is a hilarious movie which shows that adults can be as petty as kids and that we all have different faces.

The play did not match to the movie because in the former the actors start off judging the other characters through their expressions while in the movie, they are all amicable in the beginning and slowly their real feelings start unfolding. All the actors are simply brilliant.

This is one movie you shouldn't miss.
