Aashayein

Many people had recommended this Naagesh Kukunoor movie on fb few weeks back and I managed to watch few days back.

The movie stars John Abraham, Sonal Sehgal, Farida Jalal, Girish Karnad and Anaitha Nair. 

Dhoom 3

So, I was dragged for this movie against my wishes. I had read the reviews and knew it is crap. The best thing about the flick is Uday Chopra... and I am not being sarcastic.
This is what I think happened. Adi Chopra was thinking about 'what next' in next Dhoom instalment.

Dhoom is about:
- Abhishek Bachan - and his 2-3 expressions. They actually work in this flick.
- Uday Chopra- his ugliness makes him funnier
- Hot babes in bikini: This is the series which made Esha Deol look hot... Bips, Aish- even though I wanted to slap her everytime she opened her mouth, she looked hot
- Bikes... of course
- And a hot, hot villain- John Abraham, Hrithik Roshan

Madras Cafe

We could not get tickets for this flick last night and had to watch it today. Even though we bought tickets yesterday, we got 2nd row seats. It is running to packed houses. I am not surprised... there is always an audience for a good movie.

The story is based on the Sri Lankan civil war which led to Rajiv Gandhi's assassination. A very bold and gutsy topic. After all, how many of our and next generation remember the Sri Lankan civil war? The topic is very complex but Shoojit Sircar (director) has ensured that everyone understands what is being said/shown. There is no confusion or the feeling of 'whats going on'. It is a difficult task and he has done full justice to it.

Shootout at Wadala

We watched this movie over the weekend. It was a week late but it wasn't a movie I was very much looking forward to... I didn't mind watching it a week late or catching it on TV.

The movie is about a small time gangster Manya Surve and is loosely based on the book by Hussain Zaidi- 'From Dongri to Dubai'.
What I was looking forward to was John's new avatar... specially since he has garnered good reviews.
What is the story? The usual... good boy turns bad due to injustice meted out to him... becomes a small time gangster and is killed by the good cops.

What makes it entertaining is:
- Excellence actors like John, Anil Kapoor, Ronit Roy etc
- 2 item songs
- Lets admit it... anything related to gangsters is entertaining
